Brief Answer:
I shall explain on behalf of your prescribing doc

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I would first like to ask why your treating doctor chose to put you on a course of antibiotics for 6 years and the cranberry pill for 6 months instead of suggesting a more direct treatment regimen for your enlarged prostate? Was there any particular reason or did he not advise any other treatment option? Let me explain on his behalf; the prostate gland plays a major role in the male body through the various contributions it makes to its sexual function. The alkaline fluid that is ejaculated along with the sperm is secreted by the prostate to allow the sperm to survive in the acidic vaginal environment giving it a chance to result in fertilization. This along with other functions of storage and climax-related.

So, all these functions would be of utmost importance in a young male who would require his sexual function and so although your prostate was enlarged and we do have an option to resect the enlarged part of the prostate which is considered the most effective treatment; that would not be an option for you as you are quite young to undergo that procedure and risk losing your sexual function. For this reason, we can only treat you indirectly until you reach an age where you would not require your sexual function.

You should know that prostatitis is quite common in men belonging to the upper middle and older ages. For those males belonging to the older ages, prostate resection is an option. But for now, the provided treatment regimen with a few alterations may be our only option.

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you sir. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes sir.
