Question: Hi,
I have twins 3months 3 days old, recently 15 days back they were admitted in hospital for severe cold and now all is fine with them, but doctor suggested not to give lactogen anymore as this will create more of sputum. As of now as per his suggestion feeding similac 3 times a day with 1 scoop at a time. but since a week they are not sleeping and i assume they are hungry but mother's feed isn't sufficient for them. Can i start feeding them Lactogen again, if so what is the quantity

Brief Answer:
ALL FORMULA MILK MORE or LESS THE SAME

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear
Welcome to the HCM,
More the child sucks the breast more the lactation improves. This is the genuine scientific logic.
If at the same time breast feed and bottle feed are given simultaneously. Child get confused with nipples. some times soft nipple(bottle) & some time hard nipple ( mothers nipple.
Thus child likes to suck the softer nipple only and dislikes the harder nipples .
Hence less sucking of breast nipple leads to less production of breast milk.

In your situation, both the formula powder are more or less the same, There is not much significant difference except some solute differences.
Actually breast milk protects from the infections while bottle feeds are the culprit for the frequent infection.
If there is really insufficient breast milk (proven by less weight gain of the baby and excessive cry)Then You can shift to lactogen any time but with the recommended dilution only ( 30 ml= one scoop ratio).
Bottle hygiene is of utmost importance to be maintained from the infection.
It will be more hygienic if the baby is supplemented with spoon and bowl and not by the bottle. ( though quite tedious job but more hygienic way)
Hope the query is answered.
Please feel free for further clarification
thanks
