Suggest An Alternative Medication For Lupron

Question: My localized prostate cancer, diagnosed in 2013, was treated with 40 radiations and 2 years of lupron. i went into remission for a few months with a PSA of 0.02. This year 2016 my PSA has been rising from 0.02 to 0.21 to 0.27, latest August. My urologist says my cancer has recurred, but is slow growing, and we must wait until PSA reaches 1.0 to resume lupron. I don't like lupron: it made me gain weight, feminized my body, and gave me hot flashes. My father had this disease and was treated and cured with orchiectomy. Am I not a candidate for orchiectomy?

Orchidectomy is the more aggressive measure as being on Lupron. If you would prefer this, then you are totally free to get it. Doctors often keep this as a last resort because telling a man you will take off his testes is not always the best way to go. However, you seem rather comfortable with this and can actually bring it to the attention of your doctor.
