Suggest An Ideal Diet Plan For Elevated Sugar Levels In Blood

Posted on Sat, 6 Aug 2016
Question: I am 35 years old and my parents are diabetics. I just tested and came to know my sugar levels are bit above the normal values (Fasting 130 Post lunch 220) and my HBA1C is 7.7.
Is it possible for me to control the sugar levels without going for medication at this moment? Can the diet plan and exercise help me get to normal values? I do not want to start the medication at this moment

Brief Answer:
Sir, At this sugar levels, you need to start medication.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir, gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, The HbA1C levels you have given is such a high level that it definitely needs medication. But definitely diet and exercise would help you in using low doses of medication. In later days, if the sugar levels are completely under control, you may try stopping medicine with regular checking of sugar levels. If they bounce back again, then you need to use medicine regularly there after. As of now you need to start medication.

Sir, one thing is not clear, you mentioned that you just tested and din't want to start medication. But in the patient profile you mentioned medication tried Galvus Met 50/500. Please make it clear that did you already start medication and whether the sugar values you mentioned are after using medicine. Or You din't start any and values are with out medication. Try to give clarification regarding this for better suggestions.

Thank you

Thanks for the advise Doctor. My only concern is if I start using the medication I think I have to use if for life time.

Is there a chance that if I start medication and add exercise and diet to it and then once it is controlled can I stop the medication? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Yes, there is chance for that.

Detailed Answer:
Sir, i understand your concerns.

Sir, diabetes is all about controlling sugar levels. Now at this sugar levels, you need to start medication to bring the sugar levels under control.

Definitely, diet and exercise helps you in controlling the sugar levels. Initially it helps in reducing dose of medication, And later if your diet control and exercise bring much control upto the extent that even with any medication, the sugar levels are under normal levels, Then you can definitely stop the medication and see. But if the sugar levels bounce back, then you need to start again or else you can continue with diet control and exercise only.

So, don't worry much that once you start, there is no scope to stop. But the thing is all about controlling sugar levels.

Thank you.
