Suggest An Over The Counter Medication For Lichen Sclerosis

Question: Hello, I have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis. I was allergic to the ointment prescribed -Elocon. My skin is now red raw and severely inflamed. Doctor has told me to use savlon to heal the tears and then use an alternative steroid without propylene glycol. However the savlon cream seems to be making everything hurt and sting more. Urinating is excruciating. Do you have any other suggestions for a soothing emollient and how often to apply? I am desperate as I developed a secondary bacterial infection too and have been prescribed penicillin to cure that. Is it safe to use sudocream or is there another alternative you can suggest. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Tacrolimus ointment

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I am Dr.Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

I would suggest tacrolimus 0.1% ointment. It is non steroidal alternative for treatment of Lichen sclerosis. Savlon is an absolute No. Sudocrem is a soothing cream but it is not specific for lichen sclerosis.

Regards
