Question : I started taking 5mg of Lisinprol 5 days ago for BP that was averaging around 147/87 . I just took my blood pressure for the first time this afternoon and it was 145/79. How long does it take to work, and how soon should I call my doctor if it doesn't start to lower? I have a follow up appointment in 6 weeks to check blood work. Should I call him sooner if pressure doesn't lower? XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
I recommend raising the dose of lisinopril to 10mg daily.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would explain that 5 days, are enough for the antihypertensive effect of lisinopril to be noticed.
The fact that your blood pressure is still in these values, after 5 days of starting this therapy, indicates that this dose is too low and not very effective in decreasing of your blood pressure.
I would recommend increasing the dose to 10mg daily of lisinopril.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issue.
Hope to have been helpful!
Feel free to ask any other questions, whenever you need!
Best regards,
Dr. Iliri
