Question: Yesterday I got some medicines prescription from you that is antibiotics for fistula in-ano. But I couldn't find those exact medicine because the place I am living is a small town with only three small pharmacies. Two antibiotics tablets are available and the pharmacist said, these are good antibiotics for fistula in-ano. They are 1. Lucipro-500mg (ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablet I.P) and 2. Cifran (containing Ciprofloxacin 500mg and Tinidazole 600mg). Please advise with dose and duration of time to be taken if they can be taken by me. Thank you

Brief Answer:
they are the same...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

both antibiotics you've mentioned are the same (ciprofloxacin is their active ingredient). The dosage may depend on the patient's condition. For an otherwise healthy individual 750mg twice daily can be recommended as the highest dosage. The regular dosage is 500mg twice daily.

Please keep in mind that the correct treatment for the fistula is surgical only! Antibiotics can be prescribed in case there's an acute event like an infection but it won't cure the fistula itself!

Kind regards!
