Suggest Dosage For Naproxen

Question: So i have an intercostal sprain in my lower thoracic area. I was prescribed naproxen, but I just read that naproxen takes about a week before really starting to work. I stopped taking it after about 3 days because I didnt think it was helping. Is it ok to just start back up and try to stay on for the 10-14 days as suggested to get the anti-inflamitory benefit?
