Question : Should my doctor take me off of Norco 10. I've been on 3 pills a day for last 3 yrs for physical pain and emotional pain and it works well. The emotional pain results partially from the physical pain. On a 1 -10 scale the pain is usually about a 4 either in my back, or abdomen, or head. I've had 3 brain surgeries and a gamma knife procedure at UCSF
Brief Answer:
I think a trial should be given to reduce the dose
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
In my opinion the pain is under the tolerable range and a fair trial should be given to either reduce the dose of norco or stop it if possible.
I understand you had brain surgeries but I do not think the pain will stay after three years to the same magnitude.
While making a trial do not decrease the dose of Norco 5 mg per month as there are good chance of rebound pain.
I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

I'm on the Norco 10. Not Norco 5. Does that make a difference? You think it's okay in the tolerable range because I said it was a 4? It used to be 0 before all my surgeries. So I should live the rest of my life with a 4 pain threshold? What about emotional pain which from experts I've been told opiates work the best?
I forgot to mention my pain was very minimal after the first and 2nd surgeries, the third was to correct a new tumor which had developed on the outside of the skull, due to a seeding of the tumor into that area in 2nd surgery. The big pain began after the least invasive procedure, gamma knife radiation. The pain began 24 hrs after that procedure and was a 9 or 10 in the pain scale when I was first prescribed Norco 10. And the pain was all throughout my back and abdomen. Not much pain at all where the surgery or gamma knife took place in the left frontal area of my forehead. Does Norco 10 have any long term side effects other than being very habit forming?

Hello,
Thanks for follow up.
I understand it is 10 mg three times per day but when we need to reduce we should not go more than 5 mg per month. So first you can make it two and half tables followed by 2 tablets of norco after one month.
I do not mean you need to bear the pain. My purpose is reduce the dose of Norco as far as possible and not the level which makes you dysfunctional.
Regarding other side effects in addition to addiction there are many such as fear of toxicity, Central nervous system depression, effect on your renal system and lot more.
I hope this answers you further.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
