Question : yes please, we are in the middle of a hurricane in FLorida. My mom is 88 and suffering from gouty athritis Prednisone 10MG was prescribe for only 2 weeks. 3 tables for 3 days and 2 for 3 days, 1 for 3 days, half for 3 days, half for 2 days, half for 1 day. I did not give it afraid of side effect but she is in a lot of pain. please advise. can I start with only 2? I been given motrin 400mg every 6 hours not helping.

Steroid like prednisolone is needed to control the inflammation due to gout. Do start with the medicine as prescribed. Do start with full dose to have a complete relief. Such short course of steroid will have lesser side effects and the benefits are more. Taking a diet rich in vitamin C, dairy products and coffee is likely to help in improvement of symptoms.
Drink plenty of water daily to help the kidneys clear the uric acid.

It can cause some acidity. Do take it after meals and you can get omeprazole over the counter in case the acidity is severe. Any long term side effects are not likely.
