Suggest Dosage For Womenox Injection While Treating Lupus During Pregnancy

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jan 2016
Question: Hello doctor,
I have tested weakly positive for lupus. My gyne has told me that during my pregnancy I have to take Womenox injection every day for the entire 9 months of pregnancy.
However, I have had a normal pregnancy before and I have read in the internet that patients who are prescribed womenox , are only recommended it for the first 8-12 wks of pregnancy.
Is it necessary to continue for the entire pregnancy? I am only weakly positive for lupus.
Should I take the lupus test once more from a different pathology centre?

Brief Answer:
Have to be taken

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety relayed to the issue.
It is mandatory to take it during pregnancy whether weak positive or is strongly positive.
It can develop with advancing age and thus not necessarily needed to be positive in first pregnancy itself.
So it needs to be taken till 12 weeks and then we will switch you on warfarin tablets and then again injection from 36 weeks onwards.
Some gynecologists prefer giving it for whole pregnancy.
In case you have any questions about it, I will be glad to answer.
Regards

Thanks.
It's a relief that an alternative is there to nine months of injections. I will talk to my doctor about the warfarin tablets.
What I wanted to know is :

1. Any side effects of womenox?
2. Any side effects of warfarin?
3. For this lupus, any specific precautions or lifestyle changes I should do during pregnancy to keep the baby and myself healthy?
4. My doctor recommended prednisolone too. Is that necessary too? If yes, what duration and what are the side effects? I read over the internet that prednisolone is associated with cleft lip in babies.
5. What prenatal vitamin is best for pregnancy? Can u suggest?

Brief Answer:
Womenox is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, sorry for the delay in response.
Womanox has no side effects practically but still keep a note of platelet count and avoid trauma as much as possible.
Warfarin tablets are to be avoided in first trimester as they can cause congenital abnormalities in baby and thus is given in second trimester only.
Prednisolone is not needed at all so try to avoid it as much as possible.
Folic acid is the only vitamin needed and thus take it daily and regularly.
In lifestyle just take good balanced diet and fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
Take dried fruits like walnuts and almonds along with ample amount of water.
Take care
