Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: Hi,
I wanted to know if I need to take a third dosage of Nordette 21 (white pills).
I took one at 12 am last night and then 3 at 2:30 am as I didn't know I had to take 4 at once.
Today afternoon I took 4 more to complete the second dosage.
But because of the timings of the first dosage, do you think I should take a third dosage at 12 am again?

Brief Answer:
Need more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I can understand your concern. In my opinion only two doses of 4 pills each is used in case of unprotected intercourse.
So I would like to know the following:-
1) If you are using the nordette 21 pills as emergency contraception?
2)If yes when was the unprotected intercourse done?
3)Do you have regular cycles?
4)When was your last period?
Kindly let me know the above things for better suggestions.
Looking forward to hear from you.

1) using Nordette as Emergency contraceptive pills
2)it was not intercourse per say, it was just precum on the vagine (I am a virgin). whatever it was, it was 2.5 hours before taking the first pill.
3)not regular cycles. I usually get my period once every 2 months.
4) around 2 weeks ago my period ended.
Please can you reply asap, as the time for the 3rd dosage if I have to take it is now.
Also, If I take the third dose, should I worry about an overdose??

Please reply ASAP

Brief Answer:
third dose is not required and is not useful

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
In my opinion third dose of nordette is not required.
Mostly the chances of pregnancy might be less because of following:-
1)As it was not complete intercourse. It was just a precum over vagina.
2)Your cycles are irregular so ovulation might not be regular and that period of intercourse might be safe.
3)Though you have not taken the pills 4 at once you have taken them within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse and second dosage after 12 hours of first dose.
So dont worry.Chances of pregnancy might be rare.
In 80% of cases withdrawal bleeding occur within a week.
Otherwise you can wait for 3 weeks for the onset of period.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.

Brief Answer:
irregular bleeding might be the problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion nordette is a combination of estrogen and progesterone hormone.
It causes sideeffects like nausea, vomitings, headache, abdominal cramps ,irregular bleeding etc.
In case if you have irregular heavy bleeding consult local doctor.
Otherwise nothing to worry for now.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
