Suggest Dosage Of Losartan And Bystolic For High BP

I am 59 year old white male and I am taking losartan 100mg and 5mg of bystolic for high blood pressure. My pressure this evening is a reading of 136 over 80 but my pressure seems to read higher in the morning when I awake. Morning reading is usually 145 over 85.
I have 3 questions:
1. When should I be taking this medicine? should I take both pills losartan and bystolic in the am or in the pm? or should I stagger them one in the morning and one in the evening?
2. How long can I be on these drugs before it starts to have adverse effects on my health? ( no side effects so far for either drug )
3. What should my ideal pressure be ?
3.
Blood pressure can vary
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic. Blood pressure can vary throughout the day, and even from moment to moment. Thus, the variations you've noticed between morning and evening are not significant and nothing to worry about. In answer to your questions:
1. Since these are once a day medicines, they stay in your system for the full 24 hours. This means the time you take them is not critical. You can take them both together in the morning, afternoon, or evening, or you can stagger them if you like. Whatever is most convenient for you. Once you decide on a schedule, try to stick with it.
2. There is no predicting side effects. Most side effects present themselves within a few days or weeks after starting the medicines. You can be on them for years without even having side effects. In the case of your medicines, the long term use of them is less likely to cause adverse effects on your health than would poorly controlled high blood pressure. Losartan may have the added effect of protecting your kidneys, particularly if you have diabetes. Bystolic can aggravate asthma if you are susceptible to this.
3. Ideally blood pressure should be less than 140/90 at the most. If you have other conditions such as diabetes, it should be even lower, less than 130/80. The best blood pressure to have is less than 120/80. For every increase above those levels, the risk for problems such as heart attack or stroke increases. Cutting back on salt intake and reducing weight if you are overweight are ways to decrease your blood pressure without changing your medicines.
Hope this answers your questions. If you have further queries, I would be happy to answer them.
