Question : Hi Doctor,

For the past 2-3 days i am having cough and from today morning it increased. Nothing is coming up at the time of cough (sime times mild mucus are coming up). Can i take Loxof 500 for the same and if yes what will be the dose.

Thank you for your query.

1. Yes, you may take the Loxof (levofloxacin) 500 mg once a day for a week to ten days, but do this under medical supervision.

2. You can also request your doctor for a prescription of a cough suppressant syrup (such as Reswas, Ascoril-D or Zedex) and use a honey based mixture to soothe the throat (such as Madhuvaani). An anti-allergic and a medicated gargle will also help. Turmeric in warm milk is an effective household remedy.

3. Remember that is there is no relief in 48-72 hours after starting these medication, or if your symptoms worsen or new symptoms arise, you must get re-examined by your doctor.
