Brief Answer:
Continue taking antibiotic as directed by your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

If you have been suspected/diagnosed as a food poisoning by your doctor and you have been prescribed Tab.Metronidazole 500 mg three times daily then I would agree with your doctor to continue course of antibiotics with other symptomatic medications like domperidone 10 mg on as and when required basis.

Food poisoning is nothing but acute gastroenteritis due to toxins of contaminated food/water from infections like bacteria or virus or in some case due to parasite which should be treated with appropriate antibiotics for full course or as directed by your treating physician.

I can understand that you usually do not like to take drugs or antibiotics but in this case you should complete the course of metronidazole since you felt well after the first dose of it and also nausea was subsided.

In routine clinical setting, it is generally quite common to feel well after the first dose of appropriate antibiotic (especially in mild cases) but that does not mean you can stop antibiotic further rather doing so, may cause symptoms to reappear again.

So, once you will complete the course (here short course of antibiotic metronidazole in your case), your symptoms will not reappear most probably.

Also the 500mg three times daily dosage of metronidazole is a very standard dose clinically and is very effective too. Mostly, It will not cause any side effect, so there is no harm to continue it further.

And hence, you should continue metronidazole 500 mg as directed by your doctor (without missing even a single dose) for 3 days to complete the course.

Hope this detailed explanation will be helpful for you to understand and if you have a still any doubt, feel free to ask me.
