Brief Answer:
doesn't matter much

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

he can take it with or without food. Just make sure he won't take any calcium, magnesium or aluminium (like antacids or supplements for example) because they may impair the drug's absorption. Most patients have to take two doses per day (every 12 hours) but his renal function has to be taken into account. His doctor (I'm sure of that) has probably estimated his GFR (glomerular filtration rate) and has modified the dosage accordingly.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Kind Regards!
