Question: Can I treat my sprained ankle myself?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Kathy Robinson (13 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
probably

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for your question.
If you are sure that it is only a sprain then you should be able to treat it at home. Here's some suggestions to let you know if you need to see a doctor.
If it is getting better each day then it is probably just a sprain and should heal up on its own.
If you are or become unable to bear weight on the ankle then you should seek care immediately.
If the pain is getting worse instead of better then you should see a doctor.
The best things to do for sprains are to stay XXXXXXX but when you do rest, prop the leg up to decrease swelling. Sometimes an elastic wrap, like an ACE bandage, can support the ankle and give it more stability.
Let me know if you have further questions.
