Brief Answer:
Congrats, No restriction in foods, No fever.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing in with your concern.

I can understand your concern for your wife and your newborn baby.

Answer your first question.

Since your baby was delivered through Cesarean section, the mother needs to be careful while getting up and lying down.

She should not lift any heavy objects or strain till at least 2 months.

Keep the surgery area dry and clean.

Eat healthy foods and drink adequate amounts of water.

These are some of the important precautions... please follow them correctly.

1. Anyone who touches and handles the newborn baby, please wash your hands with soap and water, and dry your hands properly and only then handle your baby.

2. Always keep the mother and baby together.

3. Ideally, minimal handling of the baby by outsiders till one month.

4. Keep your baby warm at all times, put three layers of clothes, and then wrap the baby in a woolen wrap/blanket. Always put woolen gloves and woolen socks, and a woolen cap. This is very very important because of the season.

5. Check of your baby has passed urine or stools whenever she cries, and if she has passed either urine or stools, change the cloth/diaper immediately.

6. Baby should be fed from the mother's breast only for 6 months. Nothing else except medicines if prescribed by a qualified paediatrician should be given.

7. Get her immunised as per the schedule given in the chart given while being discharged from the hospital.

8. Check her body temperature once every 4 to 5 hours, place the back of your hand first on the tummy of your baby (under the clothes) and then touch the sole of the feet, if the feet feel cold to touch, then your baby is not properly covered, or she has passed urine or stools, check for that.

These are very very important so please follow well.

Now to answer your second query.

Your wife should eat everything she was eating before the delivery, if she eats meat, then please make sure she eats meat just like before, there is absolutely no restriction in food.

In fact, now she should eat 1 and half times more than she used to eat, that is because, she has to produce enough milk for your baby.

She must take calcium and iron supplements for at least 6 months to make sure baby gets enough of calcium and iron from the mother.

Your last question.

99.4 to 99.8 degrees Fahrenheit is not really fever, the temperature of our bodies can vary, and is usually on the higher side in the evenings.

Moreover, she is constantly well clothed and covered now as she has to keep the baby warm, that will cause a slight rise in temperature, please watch for any other symptoms, if she develops any severe pain in the tummy, or bleeding from vagina, or cough, or burning while passing urine or if the temperature goes above 100 degrees, then please consult her treating doctor and get her examined to rule out any wound infection etc.

I hope this answers all your questions adequately.

Congratulations again and happy parenting.

Warm regards

Hi Doctor,

Thanks a lot for your wished and for the detailed reply. Understood the precautions.
Few more queries:

1. Is there any fruit which should be avoided? For eg. orange probably because of weather.

2. My wife is having constipation after the surgery. She is taking laxilose syrup at bed time but, still she is having the problem. Pls advise.

Brief Answer:
No dietary restrictions as said earlier. Eat more.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again Mr XXXXXXX

As explained above, there are absolutely no dietary restrictions, including fruits.

She can eat everything and she "SHOULD" eat everything to be healthy.

Please ask your wife to eat well and eat vegetables, that will solve her constipation issues. There needs to stool to pass it.

Kindly consult a surgeon in case she continues to have constipation even after one more month, till then give her all fruits and vegetables.

Regards
