Suggest Medical Tests To Rule Out Menopause

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Mar 2016
Question: Hi, I am 45 and have been regular my whole life. ( 27-28 days) I am about 40 days and nothing. Taken several, home PT's, all negative. I can't tell whether its pregnancy or premenopause. Can a blood test tell me if I am entering into pre-menopause? How many weeks should I wait before seeing a doctor?

Brief Answer:
Wait up to three months!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this change in your cycle and all the inconveniences this has caused you. Please, with several negative home pregnancy tests, you cannot be pregnant. This is likely related to menopause looking at your age. recent evidence suggests that hormonal tests to investigate or confirm menopause do not add value and are discouraged. There is no threat to your health and I will actually suggest that you stay calm and wait up to three months minimum before seeking for any further medical input from your OBGYN. At this time, we would have gathered enough information to act on without running any risk as well.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
