Suggest Medication For CPPD Disease

Question: Dear Doctor: Since 2005 I am being treated for Gout. I Take 400mg. of allopurinol daily. My Rhuematoid Doctor seems to have my Uric Acid levels below 5 on a consistent basis. Recently, he found me to have CPPD, due swelling in the left knee area. Drained fluid (Calcium crystals found) and gave me a cortisone shot last month. I knew there was a problem when the Colcicine did not work on this acute attack. It seems to have spread to my right foot, second toe. Significant swelling on the toe and the top of foot where the toe meets the foot. Enough swelling that I cannot see my veins or bones in that topside of foot area. Three weeks ago he prescribed a 7 day steroid regimen of 4mg of Methylpred. I took it, as prescribed and informed him that it wasn't working. I scheduled a visit and he advised me to stay on Naprosin 24/7. Also, not working so good.
My question to you is: With all this fluid and soreness, are my joints in immediate danger?

I have a July appointment with him and I feel I need to accelerate that schedule. I have a prescription for a related to CPPD blood test, and I feel he is testing me for another type of Arthritis.

Is there a Medicine for CPPD?

Thanks in advance for your help. XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
No there is no immediate danger.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that , you are having an acute gout attack , CPPD crystals can also complicate the gouty attack . As such you have been treated rightly . Even if it's CPPD crystal deposition management won't change much . I think you can talk to your doctor regarding colchicine use, since you are not responding to naproxen and steroids so this medicine stands a chance . There is no such cure for CPPD crystal disease and symptomatic management holds the key .

Take care.

Dr. Shruti
