Suggest Medication For Blisters On Lips Caused By Strep Throat

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: My 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with strep throat Friday morning. She is on penicillin and is worse today. She has blisters on her lips, in her mouth, and down her throat. What else can I do for her? She has had a fever since Wednesday night so I have been watching it and giving her medicine to reduce it however she continues to have a fever. The blisters are the main problem.. They did give her a lidocaine rinse and it is not helping. Any suggestions?

As far as treatment of sore throat is concerned she is on right medications. Continue with it for five days. Try to record the temperature with thermometer.
In my opinion you really should add acetaminophen 500mg three times a day. It will get relieve her fever . continue with warm saline gargles.
As far as blisters and mouth ulcers are concerned kindly send me photograph of it so that it can be properly correlated. Lidocaine has soothing effect. Normally ulcers do take time to heal. It is important to rule out other causes of ulcers. Is she sexually active?
Hope your query is adequately addressed.

She is not sexually active this all started when the fevers started. It started of with just few blisters and they have spread to the entire mouth and throat.

I appreciate your follow up.
OK, in my opinion you need to continue with the antibiotics and acetaminophen. Apart from lidocaine gargles , somogel ointment and nystatin oral drops should be used for ulcers. You have to give a week time for ulcers to heal.
Hope It helps
