Brief Answer:
Cetrizine syrup...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I would start the child on cetrizine syrup about 2 - 2.5ml twice daily (dose around 0.25mg/kg body weight). But if your holiday destination has no proper medical facility, it would be advisable to visit her pediatrician before taking up the trip.

Cold and sneezing secondary to infectious cause may flare up if not treated adequately. Therefore I strictly recommend visiting the doctor if you aren't aware of medical facilities at the destination.

Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Thanks dactor,

Yes the place is a city and will have medication facilities, but we will be on continuous vehicle travel.
We have given cetrizine syrup to her and running nose has stopped.
But now she is having frequent cough, is this general symptom while recovering ?

do you suggest any medicine for cough ?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
it would be wise to rule out bacterial infection before travel...

Detailed Answer:
Cough is rather part of respiratory tract inflammation. Often the cause is allergy or a viral infection which settle down with cough preparation, it is advisable to rule out bacterial infection before you start travel. A physical examination is required therefore. Cough medication can be started after understanding the cause.

Until you see her pediatrician, continue cetrizine syrup in the suggested dose. Keep her warm and covered. Encourage her to drink warm fluids, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Hope this helped.

Regards
