Question: Tinnitus
I've had tinnitus since I was 14 years old (due to a firecracker going off in my ear). It has stayed relatively constant. Are there currently any new breakthroughs or medicine in this field. I am used to it now, but am very interested in help.

Brief Answer:
First, better to rule out the cause of your tinnitus

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your query; and suggest you that first better to rule out the cause of tinnitus. It is absolute necessary to go for some tests.

1. Otoscopy or examination under microscope to rule out the perforation in the ear drum.
2. Tuning fork test and pure tone audiometry test to rule out the hearing loss and type of hearing loss such as conductive, sensorineural or mixed if you have.
3. Impedance audiometry to assess the status of middle ear.

Further management depends upon the test result.
