Brief Answer:
Linaclotide is effective for constipation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for approaching healthcare magic for your problem.

There's no single, best approach to treat constipation dominant IBS.
You need to have a combined approach like changes in diet, exercise, stress management, and medication to get relief.

Linaclotide is a medication that can be taken once daily on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before your first meal of the day. It helps to relieve constipation by helping bowel movements happen more often.

I would also recommend the following changes in diet and activities to help reduce symptoms:

1. Avoid caffeine (in coffee, teas, and sodas).
2. Increase the intake of dietary fiber with foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.
3. Keep yourself well hydrated, drink at least 3 to 4 glasses of water per day.
4. Don't smoke.
5. Since stress can make symptoms worse, learn to relax, either by getting more exercise or by reducing stress in your life.
6. Limit the intake of dairy products like cheese, full fat milk, ice creams, etc.
7. Eat smaller meals more often instead of big meals.
8. Keep a record of the foods you eat so you can figure out which foods bring on bouts of IBS.

Hope to have answered your query.
However, if you have any follow up query, please do reply.

Best regards.

Brief Answer:
Anti-diarrheal medications for IBS.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi & Welcome back.
Thanks for your reply.

For the symptomatic relief of diarrhea you may take Loperamide which helps in reducing the frequency of the motions.
You may also try antispasmodic medications like Dicyclomine or Hyoscyamine which can help relieve painful bowel spasms. They are sometimes used for people who have bouts of diarrhea,

Remember prolonged use of these medications can worsen constipation and can lead to other symptoms, such as difficulty urinating.

Other medications like antidepressant Imipramine is also found to be effective in controlling the motions and also reduce the stress.

Since these are prescription based medications, you need to consult a physician for further evaluation and the treatment.

Hope this answers your query.

Wishing you best of your health.

Following medications are suggested for the treatment of diarrhea predominant IBS, most of them are available over the counter. Some of them like anti-motility and antidepressant may need a prescription from your doctor.

1. Antispasmodics : Dicyclomine can help relieve painful bowel spasms & useful for if have bouts of diarrhea, but it can worsen constipation and can lead to other symptoms, such as difficulty urinating.

2. Laxatives : Psyllium (Metamucil) or Methylcellulose with plenty of fluids help control constipation.
3. Anti-motility : Diphenoxylate or Loperamide can help control diarrhea with less side effects.
