Question : my wife is taking prednisone and hydrocodon for a pinched nerve in her back. now she has a temperture between 100 and 101. what fever reducer can she take safely?

Hello and welcome,

She can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) in moderation. That is if the hydrocodone she is taking is not already combined with acetaminophen (you will see on the label two numbers if it is). If it is combined already in the preparation, then make sure that she is not getting more than 1000 mg of acetaminophen total between the hydrocodone preparation and any additional Tylenol.

I am concerned however that if she is on suppressive dosages of prednisone, this could mask her actually having a higher fever and a more severe infection. If the source of her infection is not obvious and being treated, it would be best for her to go in to be evaluated for the source of the fever.
