Question: My therapist thinks that im getting more hopeless and sad being on lamictal for depression, anxiety, and mainly unwanted thoughts. I have been on lamictal 200 mg for 8 days now. What should i do? Is it time for a ssri? The doctor said that appt that could go on prozac if i would like but i.figured i would give lamictal a try. I feel ok nut sometimes get sad and hopeless and cry(mainly at therapy). My dark.thoughts are what really scares me and causes the issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Lamictal and SSRIs treat very different things. Lamictal treats bipolar depression in someone with a history of a manic episode. SSRIs treat unipolar depression is people without a history of a manic episode. If you have never had mania, then an SSRI would be much more appropriate.
