Brief Answer:
Mirapex, Horizant, Requip

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am sorry you have been suffering with Restless Leg Syndrome. Yes, there are medications specifically used for RLS that can can help control the symptoms.

These medications are:

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil)
Mirapex
Requip (ropinirole hydrochloride), a drug commonly used to treat Parkinson disease

All three drugs may cause side effects, such as sedation, nausea and dizziness and may cause patients to fall asleep without any warning, even while doing normal daily activities such as driving. But this doesn't happen to everyone - they are just possible side effects.

In addition to Horizant, Requip, and Mirapex, there are several drugs that are usually used for other conditions that can help RLS symptoms. These include benzodiazepines (which are sedative, muscle relaxants), opiates (if pain is also a problem), and dopamine related medications. These medications also have side effect risks.

There are other treatments that don't involve medicine that you can consider too.
They include:
Limiting caffeine and alcohol
Hot bath
Regular exercise such as walking or stretching
Eliminate or lessen any alcohol

Your doctor should test you for any underlying iron or vitamin deficiency and then possibly supplementing your diet with iron, vitamin B12 or folate.

Review your medications with your doctor as you may be taking something which could make RLS symptoms worse. These may include drugs used to treat high blood pressure, heart conditions, nausea, colds, allergies, and depression.
Also review with either your doctor or the pharmacist you buy your medications from regarding any herbal and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking to see if they could be worsening your RLS.

Another treatment is a special foot wrap:
Using a specially designed foot wrap at night may help alleviate the symptoms of RLS. Before sleep, the wrap is placed on the foot and applies continuous pressure to targeted foot muscles. This device is thought to work by signaling the brain to relax the muscles of the leg and relieve the sensations of RLS.

Another treatment is to treat varicose veins with non-surgical sclerotherapy:
98% of patients affected by RLS in a recent study found symptom relief after treating varicose veins in their legs with non-surgical sclerotherapy. Its possible that in some people it is an underlying vein problem that causes the Restless Leg Syndrome, and by treating this with an outpatient procedure, patients can get relief.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.

Brief Answer:
How correspondence on this site works.

Detailed Answer:
Hello -

I wish I could update you if a new medication (other than Mirapex, Horizant, Requip) is approved, but I am not able to. The way this company works is that it only allows me access to interact with a patient in response to the patient initiating a question first. So I can't write you directly with new information unfortunately.
