Question: I'm a 71 year old male, about 6'2", 245 lb. and would like to lose 30 pounds or so. I have a good diet with fruits and vegetables every day, very little red meat, salmon twice weekly, small glass of red wine most days. Also I play tennis 4x weekly, walk 2X weekly, and work out with weights 2X weekly. The problem is that I keep adding 3 or 4 pounds each month. Are there any pills that can aid in loosing weight, my wife doesn't want to become involved with a diet.

Pills not recomended

Detailed Answer:
Hello

So nice to hear from you again

There are no short cuts when it comes to losing weight. One has to lose weight gradually and naturally by sustained effort. I dont recommend losing weight by 3 weeks.

Here is what you should do

1. Make sure you avoid high fat food like fried food items, burgers, pizza, pasta etc until you reach your goal
2. YOu can have a cheat day but cheat day is strictly for carbohydrates not fat
3. Identify what must be adding onto the calories, it is most often beverages like tea, coffee, beer, soda pop, aerated drinks ,etc. Stop drinking them. When you are thristy water will do just fine
4. Stay motivated, this is the most important thing
5. When you are hungry between meals grab a fruit
6. Make sure to eat a good big bowl of salad atleast once a day
7. Walk everyday for 30 minutes.

If you have a smartphone, myfitnesspal is an amazing app which helps you keep your calories in check. Set a goal of around 500g a week, you will be able to achieve your goal in 6 months.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

I pretty already do what you recommend, otherwise the weight might even be more. With 2/3's of Americans either overweight or obese, until there is an easy way to lose weight, not much will change.

Hello

Thanks for getting back. Well, you have a strong debate.

Here are my recommendations

1. Most of the weight loss supplements have a lot of side effects especially fat burners. So please do not take them
2. Tab Orlistat is a wonderful drug, it helps by preventing absorption of fat. However this has known to cause a lot of greasy stools which might be annoying to some people. Ask your physician for a prescription of orlistat
3. Continue to exercise and follow a healthy diet
