Brief Answer:
About hypothyroidism treatment;

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The high TSH level is suggestive for underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism.

It is a chronic pathology that usually has an autoimmune etiology (Hashimoto thyroiditis). To confirm it she needs to check the antibodies (anti-TPO and anti Tg). As the pathology is chronic, the treatment is long term.

I do agree with her treating physician to start levothyroxine treatment and 6 weeks after to check TSH to be sure that the dose is right.

Specific care should be done before planning a pregnancy. She should be sure that TSH is under 2.5 than try to conceive.
During pregnancy she should be also under close control as a high TSH can be harmful for the outcome of pregnancy and the development of the baby.

Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
