Question : ARE ANY OF THESE MEDICINES Affected by eATING OR DRINKING GRAPEFRUIT JUICE? SERTRALINE, LEVOTHYROXINR\E, SIMVASTATIN, DIGHOXOINE
Brief Answer:
hi and welcome to hcm.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks fir the query.
Yes, simvastatin, levotiroxine and sertraline are affected by grapefruit since these drugs are metabolised by citocrom oxidase in liver. grapefruit will inhibit this enzyme so concentration of these drugs in blood will be affected too. however it shouldnt cause serious side effects, but it will reduce drugs efficiency. Since you take 3 drugs i suggest not to intake grapefruit. Wish you good health. Regards
