Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.

The next steps here are to wait until Tuesday when she sees her new psychiatrist. At this time she should begin treatment with an antidepressant medication. Medications that are good include Zoloft and Prozac.

Hopefully, she will begin to feel better within 3-6 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
She should continue treatment with an antidepressant for 6 months to a year at least, and possibly for life.

The most common side effects are GI upset, which resolves after about 2 weeks, and decrease in sexual interest and inability to orgasm (in about 20% of patients).
