Question : My boyfriend is having severe abdominal pain on the left side and it radiates to the back. This is accompanied with fever chills and vomiting and diarrhea. He is in severe pain. Can't find any comfortable position and is restless.. any thoughts as to what we can do at home. He may have diverticulitis. He hates hospitals and I'm trying to help him out but if it might be something worse I would hate to waste valuable time. Any advise would be really appreciated. The pain in the side has been most of the evening.

Hello,

* This condition is of underlying acute infection of intestine from various possible reasons.
* Guidelines at present

- Must get emergency attention at ER for the checkup of vital parameters, necessary investigations and proper line of management.

- At home can give capsule Omeprazole with sips of water on an empty stomach; tab. Tylenol after 30 minutes of that. Any rest of the molecules will need a prescription of the doctor so out of question.

- Allow him liquids in some amounts in sessions to maintain hydration.

* Summary is to convince him for ER visit as soon as possible to get the condition under control as early as possible.
