Suggest Natural Ways To Combat Depression

Posted on Tue, 25 Nov 2014
Question: just got back from hospital from a severe asthma attack. I am considering quitting all my medications because of their various side effects and a basic mistrust of the pharma industry. I'm on symbicort, wellbutrin, clonazapam, ritalin, prior, naproxen. I am very active outside, especially gardening and believe my asthma my be better controlled by wearing a dust mask, swimming and just generally exercising more. Been on wellbutrin and symbicort for years. Astma brought on from contact with concrete mortar, plant pollen, wood shavings as I split my own wood. Depression my whole life under doctor's care onlythe last 12 years so for 50 years I was on no depression or astma medication as I has no insurance; no that I do and the drugs are relatively free I believe my health generally is going in the wrong direction and I should take back control of my health through better diet and exercise as before.

Brief Answer:
Holistic lifestyle modification is recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,

I have understood your query and concern.

It's a pretty good idea to drop the unnecessary medications and follow a good dietary and exercise regime.

You can visit a doctor who is qualified in Natural and Complementary medicine to help you to wean from drugs with stringent side effects and addictive potential.

The drugs which require high alert in your case are wellbutrin, ritalin, clonazepam, abilify and seroquel. All these are psychoactive drugs which can worsen your asthma and worsen the quality of life on a whole.

For this you need to visit an occupational therapist, stress management life coach, cognitive and behavioural therapist to combat depression, improve quality of life without depending on drug support.

But drugs like Symbicort, Proair, advair are antiasthmatic and probably safe to continue.

You should avoid contacting pollen and other allergic materials that can worsen asthma.

Regular breathing exercises 20 min a day for 5 days a week will improve mechanics and oxygenation capacities. They also help to destress you to a large extent.

Whirlpool baths at bedtime will improve the quality of sleep and make you feel good for the whole next day.

Would like to comment further on the test results taken two days ago once you upload on your follow up query.

Hope i have answered your query at the moment.
Post your further query if any.
Thankyou.
