Brief Answer: No hypoglycemia. Sugar level more than 65. Detailed Answer: Hi, I went through the query and understood your concern. This is not hypoglycemia unless you have symptoms as each individual is different in responding to body sugar levels. For healthy people, normal fasting glucose level should be between 65 and 110 mg/dl. Two hours after consuming foods or drinks rich in carbohydrates, the values are usually between 120 and 140 mg/dl. As I told the sugar level varies between each individual, amount of carbohydrate in food and your activities. Sugar value less than 70 is less but if no other symptoms and is maintaining around 64 means no need to worry. Many people during routine screening for diabetes in my clinic shows sugar level around 60 without any symptoms. 1. You should have nutritious cerbohydrate rich food at regular intervals for every 3 hours. 2. No need to worry unless you feel hypoglycemic symptoms as our body has reflex mechanisms to maintain sugar levels required for our health. Hope this information help you. Feel free to ask if you have any further concerns, I will be glad to assist you. Wish you good health. Regards

Thank you Dr. Lohit K, I am still concerned about my glucose levels, as the lows that I have recorded have not been fasting levels, but rather levels in between meals, and as I reported in my original inquiry, less than 2 hours after eating a carb/protein balanced snack of grapes and non- fat Greek yogurt. And these low levels are accompanied by symptoms of sweating, shakiness and shallow breathing. I know these questions are getting slightly off topic, but could my anxiety disorder be affecting my glucose levels. I have generalized anxiety every morning and most if the afternoon. Perhaps the stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol) are affecting my blood sugar? There does seem to be a correlation to me, as I did not have these issues before the anxiety started in February of this year. A friend had also mentioned that I may have adrenal gland fatigue, which can also affect blood glucose levels. I don't mean to complicate the issue further, what is your opinion? Thank you so much.

Brief Answer: balance between hormones are present Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing back. Yes. As I said, there will be constant balance between the hormones to maintain sugar levels. Anxiety may tend to increase sugar level acutely. One end insulin act to reduce sugar level and in other end growth hormone, corticosteroids, adrenaline etc increases the sugar levels. So if there is any imbalance then the values shift to one side. In increase body demand for sugar like in hyperthyroidism or in increase BMR due to adrenal gland tumor the sugar will be consumed very fast and feeling of weakness along with other specific clinical features will be present. Since you don't have any other complaints you need not to worry about it. Just for your comfort you can ruleout the chance of adrenal gland tumor or hyperactivity with abdominal scan and by measuring early morning hormone levels. Since your sugar level came to minimum after snacks, it is better to check sugar levels at different time points like before breakfast, 2 hour after breakfast, before lunch, 2 hour after lunch, evening and before dinner. These readings will tell about any variations throughout the day. I also advice you to consume carbohydrate rich food at every 3 hours maintaining the total calorie intake. Since you are on diet, increase physical and mental activities should also be considered in planning. These will help in preventing hypoglycaemia. Hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask if any further queries. Wish you good health. Regards
