Question : Four weeks ago, I had spinal surgery at the Toronto Western. It was the fusing of the L4 and L5 using minimally invasive surgery techniques. My question is, how will I know that I am fit to return to work? I am walking 3-5 km a day, have full energy for about 5 hours a day, am sleeping 12-13 hours a day, and feel fabulous. Besides walking, should I be doing anything else to promote my health?

Brief Answer:
Six weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic.

1. Usually 6 weeks is good time to return back to work after any spinal procedure.
2. You are doing well according to your physical ability that you have mentioned.
3. A post operative check investigations are required to make sure that procedure went well.
4. MRI lumbar spine is investigation of choice after a spinal procedure.
5. Advised not to lift weights and bent forward - rather pick up from sideways. That should be fine.

Good luck.
