Question: I just had a colonoscopy performed last week. This is the second time doctor found polyps and removed them. Mother died of colon cancer 30 years ago. Since I am at a higher risk for cancer do you recommend a diet of fruit, vegetables and lean meats? I stated the "Whole 30" diet program which consist of no dairy, no grains no legumes,no alcohol,no smoking.and I feel lighter and great.
I do exercise regularly.

Brief Answer:
Welcome to HCM. I have reviewed your concern

Detailed Answer:
You are on the right tract. Let me outline preventative measures to avoid colon cancer.

1. The obvious one, you have mentioned. Consume a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, cleaned well if fresh, and try to eat as many fresh vegies and fruits from the color of the rainbow;

2.Studies have shown a beneficial role for Folic acid in the prevention of colon cancer. Eat or take 400 mcg. of Folic acid per day.

3.Limit meats to very lean as saturated fat is supportive of cancer growth.

4.Assure an intake of 1200-1500 mg calcium per day.

5. Check with your physician, but some studies suggest an aspirin per day.

6. Eat a diet high in fiber, both the soluble and insoluble forms. Soluble comes from psyllium, fresh fruit skins, oatmeal; insoluble from XXXXXXX wheat, rye..

I sincerely hope I have given you some lifestyle ideas.

Good luck and if I have answered your question, please rate and close.
