Suggest Remedies For UTI

Question: Hello doctor, my newborn son who is 3 weeks old has entercoccus bacterial infection in urine culture report. He is on antibiotics and a scan was taken to make sure his kidneys, bladder, ureter were all well. The report suggests kidneys and everything else was fine. The only finding was that he had some residual urine of 20ml after urinating. He does wear pampers. When we remove the pampers he urinates in jet speed on our face or upward never in drops but Im not clear how it would be when in diaper. Is this a worrying sign? He had a CRP of 62 initially which came down to 3 after 2 days of antibiotics.

Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern but subsequent episodes of UTI can occur

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Your son has an urinary tract infection (UTI). Our urine contains micro organisms (for all of us). But when there is residual urine left in the bladder, these bacteria get scope to proliferate and cause an infection. Babies may sometimes have a tendency to hold urine (at least partially). Although this is not directly worrisome, it would predispose him to subsequent episodes of UTI in the future.

I would insist you to try to keep him on exclusive breast feeding. It will help in boosting his immunity.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
