Question: hello,

I have a bump on my inner buttcheck area, I have tried to wait out to pop it. it's been there roughly 2 weeks after I shaved the area previously. I tried compressing with hot water and it softened some but it never broke. it looks different than a normal ingrown hair bump which is easier to pop
any recommendations. pictures are attached

Brief Answer:
About the bump.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It looks like it may be a small sebaceous cyst, inclusion cyst, or a small abcess. If hot water softened it a bit, I would do more of this. Heat can keep a small infection in check while your body takes care of it, and can help it resolve.

Some people develop keloids in areas where skin has been cut or disturbed in some way, but heat would not help this, so I think a keloid is less likely here.

I recommend using moist heat on it for at least several minutes at a time at least 3 times a day (or more if you can) for the next 3-4 days. This can be done by repeatedly heating up a wash cloth with hot water, or soaking your bottom in a tub. I wouldn't press on it during this time, just apply moist heat. The heat will do a few things: decrease the multiplication of bacteria if it is an infection, draw blood to the area with the body's natural immune/clean-up cells which will both decrease any infection, and also help a cyst to organize or mature so that it is easier to incise or drain.

If you don't see any improvement in that time, then go in to your doctor to have it evaluated. It may have come to a head or be more "organized" and easier for the doctor to incise if needed by that point.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
