Question: I have bad case of acid in my stomach. I've taken medication for it, but times I just have to vomit..last night I noticed that the liquid was dark coffee color. I felt much better after I vomited. Is that color old blood? No, I didn't drink coffee all day

Brief Answer:
Old coffee appearance is blood.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

When the stomach bleeds, the acid in the stomach causes the blood to look like old coffee grounds. If you are already on medication and you are vomiting blood (which that coffee looking stuff is) you should go to the ER.

If you are still having severe symptoms such as needing to vomit, and especially, vomiting blood, then go to the ER.

I don't know what medications you are taking, but you should be on an acid blocker/proton pump inhibitor type medication.
