Question : My 2yr old son woke up in the middle of the night crying and coughing as if he was choking. I thought he may vomit and took him into the bathroom. He kept coughing and began to spit out a phlegmy saliva. Mind you he does not have a cold. He was also shaking which made me think he was in some kind of shock. Finally, I got him to relax and he went back to sleep. He was still shaky for a while. I monitored him and he was fine after about 10 min and making sure he was warm. A few days ago, he went through a traumatic experience where he was bitten on the face by another child. It caused bruising, but thankfully no broken skin. I'm concerned he is going through stress related trauma. What can I do for my 2 yr old son?

Brief Answer:
For now monitor only to see if this occurs again!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for contacting us at healthcare magic.

I am so sorry to hear about what your son experienced. While this might be possible trauma, his age doesn’t allow for accurate recording re-experiencing of what had happened. For us to also settle on such a diagnosis, we need to observe this happen more than once. At this time, we will need to observe only. Any actions would be determined on the basis of whether this has recurred or not. In most infants, such observations are singular and need no further evaluation or any specific management.

In all, observe only at the time. We will only investigate further if this repeats itself.

I hope to get updates from you when necessary. I wish your son well. Am always available for further exchanges if need be.
