Question : Hello Doctor,
My son is 8 years old and he was having cough and cold since last Saturday. On Sunday, we visited a BAMS doctor as the pediatrician was not available on Sunday. He gave a Paracetamol and Amoxycilin tablet which he had. The cold is now gone but he is now continuosly coughing. It is dry cough. Can you please advise.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I gone through your question and understand your concerns. The symptoms of child are suggestive of viral upper respiratory infection, most likely a viral group. It needs only symptomatic treatment in the form of antihistaminics such as syrup Chericof or Maxtra for 3-5 days. There is no use of Amoxicillin, so stop it. It can take 1-2 weeks to improve completely.

Ensure plenty of water intake and a balanced diet. Warm saline gargles will be useful.

Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for your detailed response. As advised, I got Chericof syrup yesterday and have been giving him 7.5ml doses thrice a day since yesterday night. There is no significant improvement yet and in addition now he has runny nose and cold as well which was absent yesterday. please advise further course of action.

Hi
No need to worry. Chericof helps to relieve cough, running nose and cold. The improvement will come gradually. So, just continue as planned earlier.
