I am so sorry to hear about this dry cough that your son has. I will like to know for how long this has been going on and whether there are any other symptoms such as fever, difficulty breathing, etc.

In most cases, dry cough is caused by a virus and resolution is often spontaneous. A cough syrup would be helpful unless there is something else that makes us think an antibiotic might be necessary. In most cases, it is not needed and symptoms often resolve within 7-10days.
