Suggest Remedies For Food Stuck In The Throat

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: Hi! Yesterday I was eating hard candy (Pez) and a jagged piece got stuck in my throat and hurt. I was able to cough it up after a while but now my throat is sore. I'm really scared of infection or bleeding. I don't taste any blood however. Do I need to worry that it would start hemorrhaging or anything? Should I worry about infection?

Brief Answer:
Does not seems to worry about hemorrhage or infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxx, thank you for posing your query on health care magic.

I am able to understand your concern.

The reason for soreness in your throat after eating a hard candy which got stucked in your throat and then got removed is probably inflammation in your throat due to blunt trauma. If any bleeding would have occured then you must have felt blood taste in your mouth/Blood in your sputum/trickling sensation in your throat due to blood trickling backwards in your throat.

Looking at your symptoms, right now it does not seems to worry about hemorrhage or infection

You need to take Analgesic(like Ibuprofen) along with Antacid(like Rantac). You can also take Anesthetic oral gel like Lignocaine half an hour before meals,if it is paining too much

For a few days, avoid following food items:
All foods that are too hot or too cold, foods that are heavily salted or spicy, foods that are acidic (grapefruit or orange juice, tomato sauce), food that are hard and crunchy (pretzels, potato chips) they might cause bleeding and Raw fruits and vegetables.

For a few days, take following food items:
Cold Foods - The cold of the food may help with the pain and swelling(avoid too much cold food),Liquid and soft diet.

If after following the above measures, your symptoms does not reduce after 3-4 days, then it would be advisable to consult an Otolaryngologist Doctor.

Hope this answers your question.I would be happy to answer if you have any follow-up questions.Get well soon.
