default
Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: I have a clear foul smelling liquid that seeps from the cross incision created by two surgeries tears ago...also from my navel and at the top of the separation of my bottom. Neosporin helps and usually clears it up but this time it seems to have spread much more on my lower abdomen skin making red streaks and burning sensation. How concerned should I be?

Brief Answer:
Neosporin Contact Dermatitis/ Under evaluation

Detailed Answer:

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.

My opinion-
In the given situation-You seem to suffer from-Contact allergy with dermatitis from Neosporin use.
The infection which is coming from cross incision needs to be attended by your Surgeon, as is it is recurring.

Do' Suggested-
Stop Neosporin.
Apply some steroid ointment locally on red streak areas and on skin ONLY.
Don"t use it inside the wound.
Check for blood and urine sugar to rule out diabetes for chronic recurrent discharge from the non healing wound at some points.
Do Hydrogen peroxide dressing with family doctor till the time.
Take Antibiotics from family doctor.
To prevent its recurrence,Consults with Surgeon, who remain some foreign bodies of used stitches, and would debride the wound sufficiently,so as to heal it fast.
Apply siloderm on the skin around to protect it from spread of reaction/ dermatitis.
Use Silvadene ointment instead of Neosporin-as due to long use, allergy is developed to it.
