Question: Hi - I am 60 years old and swim very competitively on a Master's Swim Club (www.USMS.org ). I have been seeing a rise in blood pressure readings, even 5-10 hours after exercise (150/75). Is too stressful of a workout likely to be the cause? One hour, pulse often at 150-170/min during the one hour workout. I am also under stress from a pending divorce, so I am not sure which is the issue. (I take Micardis (40mg) which under normal circumstances is enough to keep me at about 120/80.)

Hi
Thanks for choosing HCM

Target blood pressure above age 45 is less then 140/90mm of hg.So your blood pressure is almost normal. After one hour of exercise your pulse raises to about 150/min.Target heart rate should be 220-age i.e 160.So a heart rate of about 160 after an hiur of work out is not problemetic.
However i would suggest you to go through a baseline test of cardiology called stress test.If its normal then you are free from cardiology side.
Thanks!
