Question: My right carotid artery pounds much harder than the left, which I can barely feel with my fingers. I'm feeling it just in side of and just above where the space between the clavicles meet. I have a high blood pressure reading, too. Yesterday it was 144/114.

Brief Answer:
hypertension induced carotid pulsations.guidelines provided herewith .

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the details .

* Hypertension induced carotid pulsations manifested with stress , anxiety .

* Various possibilities for right sided carotid pulsations are

- calcification or narrowing of that side carotid artery - formation of bend / loop making it
tortuous - aneurysm of right carotid - occasional cases where altered pulse pressure of
right internal jugular venous plexus which is little distance from carotid artery .

Needs carotid doppler ultrasound for the further evaluation .

* Recommendations at present

- Salt restricted diet .
- Plenty of liquids .
- Avoid stress , anxiety to best extent by deep breathing exercises , regular
walking in fresh air , YOGA , meditations .
- Regular BP measurement chart .
- Sound sleep of 8 hours .
- Avoid smoking or alcohol if using in any form .

* Follow up recommended after 48 hours or early if needed .
