Question : my son was bitten by something at school. the bite covers about a two inch area, he did not feel the bite and it does not itch either. but it looks bad, as you can see from the red swollen spot just above his hip. thank you for your insight.

I have reviewed the attached photographs and can appreciate the swollen red area along with the bite mark. It is definitely a case of insect bite reaction.
In such cases I recommend my patients to take a short course of oral steroids like tablet Prednisolone 20 mg daily in the morning after breakfast for 5 days along with application of Cortisone cream on the affected area twice daily for 5-7 days till the swelling and redness resolves.
The lesion should resolve in 5-7 days.
