Suggest Remedies For Insomnia In An Infant
Question: Hello Doctor,
This is regarding my baby who is one month old. We are staying in a place where the weather condition is very hot. There is no AC. All these days we were managing with air cooler. My baby developed severe mucous and was unable to breathe. Doctors advised us to stop using the air coolers and was on medication for 5 days. We stopped using air cooler. Now she is ok but she is not sleeping at all due to very hot weather. Her body temperature is also high but she is not having any fever.
We are really worried on how to overcome this heat conditions and make baby sleep as we are not using any air coolers. Can you please advise on any other options which we can try so that baby can feel bit cool and can sleep well. Does air coolers cannot be used at all? Does new born baby can bear such hot weather conditions?

Hi.... I understand your concern. You can use air cooler but at the same time do not direct the flow of the air cooler towards the baby directly. What you need to do is to keep the baby away from the air drift of the air cooler, in that way the small particulate water particles which come from the air cooler do not affect the baby and cause for lower respiratory infection.
Baby's body temperature will be high in hot weather condition, you are right, this is not fever. But the baby can get easily dehydrated. Please use air cooler in the way I suggested.

Thank you Dr for your reply. Actually we tried using the same way allowing the air drift away from the baby but somehow she developed lot of mucous and had breathing trouble. Doctors advised us to stop completely hence we stopped using.
May be we will try again but scared as she had a severe mucous and was unable to breathe. Hope she will not have the same problem.
Also we are planning to travel in AC coach in train. Is it ok..can we travel with baby in AC coach?
