Question : My sister who is 72 just called me and says she has a kaleidoscope effect in only one of her eyes. She put a warm compress on it but it is still there.. SHe won't go to the hospital. I live quite a distance away from
her so I need your advice

Your concern is appreciated

The eye has very uniform medium for uiform refraction of light to takes place and help us in perfect vision so any abnormalities in the refractory medium would lead to dispersion of light and results in kaliedoscopic effect. The causes are many which include corneal edema which inturn has many causes , vitrous detachment, uveitis , ocular migrain can also give such symptoma and pain is not present with that. Cataract complications can also lead to such efect
A detailed eye examination with split lamp is needed and treatment is then directed to the cause. Please consult an ophthalmologist in this regard.
