Question: Hello, I am a 28 year old female and I have PCOS. I am not currently on any pills to help out with this because I am afraid of blot clots and the side affects that come along with it. Normally I would get my period once a year and it would last 3 to 5 days. For the past 3 to 4 months I have been eating clean and exercising. I have lost 13 pounds. Since I started exercising I have gotten my period every month. I am on my 4th month. The periods have lasted me longer than 10 days. Sometimes heavy, sometimes light. Today, I am on my 10th day and it is a regular flow. Whereas yesterday, it was very light and barely anything left. I thought when I woke up this morning that I was finally free. I was VERY WRONG! Please help, what can I do or take that is natural to help with this? As I mentioned, I do not want to take birth control considering the horrible side affects.

Brief Answer:
you may use antifibrinolytics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
If You Really do not want to take oc pills and for PCOD this you need to reduce your weight and as your menses are coming monthly now, the menorrhagia can be controlled with antifibrinolytics like TAB TRANEXAMIC ACID 500mg thrice a day for 3 days. This shall help control and reduce the flow of menses and prevent any chance of anaemia .
You can get it prescribed by your local doctor or PCP.

Thank you, you mentioned "thrice a day" did you mean twice a day for 3 days? Also, will I be taking this during my menstrual cycle? What are the side affects and whats the purpose? I know its alot of questions but I'm just doing my research.

Brief Answer:
mechanism of action of antifibrinolytics.

Detailed Answer:
I have rightly mentioned three times a day for 3 days.

These are actually haemostatic agents which act to conserve blood but have different sites of action in the complex pathways determining coagulation and fibrinolysis.
Antifibrinolytics like tranexamic acid inhibit the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, prevent the break-up of fibrin and maintain clot stability. They are used to prevent excessive bleeding.

Tranexamic acid is the best known and is used where the risk of haemorrhage is high due to increased fibrinolysis especially in women with menorrhagia have increased levels of endometrial plasminogen activators compared with those with normal menstrual loss.
